Mgabhi to tackle 45km version of 2020 Virtual Comrades Marathon and raise funds for needy families

RICHARDS Bay ultra-distance runner Nontu Mgabhi plans to raise R40 500 to feed 45 families by tackling the 45km distance of the virtual Comrades Marathon race on Sunday.

Mgabhi is no stranger to ultra-marathons, having become the first South African women to conquer the World Marathon Challenge earlier this year.

In doing so, she raised money for a needy primary school in Dukuduku, near Mtubatuba.

Mgabhi now challenges the community to donate R450 towards her run on Sunday, with the hopes of raising enough money to purchasing 45 food parcels for needy families.

‘For every R450 donated, I will match R450, making it R900 per family,’ she said.

‘People can challenge me to run beyond the 45km mark with their donation, but I am willing to only run up to 100km on Sunday.

‘For every extra R100 donated, I will run an extra kilometre.’
