A serious fire has broken out at the sulphur terminal in Richards Bay.

The fire reportedly started at the sulphur line and has since extended to the phosphate rock.

It was reported by Grindrod Terminals to the Richards Bay Clean Air Association (RBCAA) at about 1.45pm today (Wednesday).

The Foskor fire department is on the scene and uMhlathuze traffic officials are diverting motorists from the harbour past Bayside.

A strong wind is blowing the smoke away from the road.
