iSimangaliso Wetland Park set to re-open, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi remains closed

iSimangaliso will open for self-drives, recreational fishing (for valid permit holders) and beach walking

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park has confirmed it will re-open its gates for permitted activities under Level 3 on Monday, but Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife’s Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park remains closed for now.

iSimangaliso will open for self-drives, recreational fishing (for valid permit holders) and beach walking. Charter fishing remains restricted.

‘All regulations relating to social distancing, health protocols, movement and prohibition of group gatherings apply,’ said iSimangaliso authority spokesperson, Bheki Manzini.

iSimangaliso stretches about 200km along the KwaZulu-Natal coastline from south of Maphelane to the Kosi Bay border.

It includes the popular eastern shores (Cape Vidal), western shores, Sodwana Bay, uMkhuze Game Reserve and Kosi Bay destinations.
While the rest of the province’s public reserves remain closed until further notice, it is anticipated they will be ready to receive visitors soon. Ezemvelo

KZN Wildlife spokesperson, Musa Mntambo, said that while a date has not yet been set for the province’s parks to resume business, they are well underway with preparations and expect to update the public by the weekend.

South African Tourism and Tourism KZN have been running campaigns to entice South Africans to explore the diverse natural heritage that is on their doorsteps and thereby support the re-vitalisation of this critical sector of the economy.
