Comrades legends race draws many entries

ATHLETES from across the globe are signing up to participate in the inaugural Race The Comrades Legends event on Sunday, 14 June.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has been pulling out all the stops to ensure that it will be the ultimate virtual event.

With entries only opening recently amid the worldwide Covid-19 lockdown, more than 6 000 entries have already been received and are still streaming in.

The latest entry breakdown is as follows:
10 km Comrades sprint – SA 852, international 106.
21.1 km half marathon – SA 2 263, international 346.
45 km half Comrades – SA 1 157, international 190.
5 km Couch-2-Comrades – SA 259, international 52.
90 km Race the Legends – SA 720, international 85.

The entry breakdown is: South Africa 5 261, Brazil 329, United Kingdom 100, USA 65, Australia 54, Germany 31, Canada 18, India 18, Zimbabwe 17 and Russia 13.

These races offer runners some kind of bonus of being part of an event after the months of training in isolation.

The CMA calls on family members to become involved.

All that individuals need to do is visit the Comrades website, register for Race The Comrades Legends and select their distance.

Entrants will also have the option of purchasing a commemorative mrpsport ‘Race The Comrades Legends’ T-shirt, as well as a choice of donating to the official Comrades Amabeadibeadi charity.

The cost is R150 for South African runners and $25 for foreign athletes, with free entry to all South African runners who already entered the 2020 Comrades Marathon.

Once registration is complete, runners will receive all the race information and rules.
