Cellphone tower battery thieves foiled

Cellphone tower batteries valued at R270 000 were found in the vehicle

NINE cellphone tower batteries were recovered by eShowe police in the Maqhwakazi Reserve, outside eShowe, during an intelligence-driven operation on Thursday.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbhele, said police acted on a tip-off about a vehicle suspected to be carrying the stolen batteries.

‘When police approached the vehicle, the suspects abandoned it and fled.

‘The vehicle was searched and nine cellphone tower batteries valued at R270 000 were found,’ said Mbhele.

No arrests have yet been made.
