Flourishing foundation helping girls in need

Volunteers are hard at work moving door-to-door distributing sanitary towels for the girls who need them

WITH the nation still on lockdown, the coronavirus pandemic continues to cause devastation in many Zululand communities.

During this difficult time, many families have no source of income, made worse by children at home who cannot take advantage of school feeding programmes.

But a group of eSikhaleni youngsters is making a difference through the Umvuzomuhle Foundation, collecting sanitary pads for young girls who depend on such programmes.

‘We obviously appreciate the efforts made in terms of food distribution, but we have identified a gap in relation to young girls’ dignity during their monthly cycles,’ said foundation chairman Mkhuseli Buthelezi.

‘Most of the disadvantaged young girls depend on government-issue sanitary towels they receive at school, but which are currently closed owing to the Covid-19 lockdown.

‘#Donate4Change is a social initiative open to all girls across KZN. The main aim is to address the socio-economic gap and give our girls the special attention they need during this difficult time.’

Volunteers are currently hard at work moving door-to-door distributing sanitary towels to those who need them the most.

The foundation has urged the public to also contribute.

Donations can be sanitary towels, food, water for volunteers and cash donations.
