Interest-free loans for SA students in Germany

A loan of up to 650 euros a month is being offered by the German government

SOUTH African students studying in Germany and whose income has been impacted by Covid-19, will have access to an interest-free education loan to ensure the continuation of their studies.

The loan of up to 650 euros a month is being offered by the German government and will be available for students from 1 June.

‘Due to Covid-19, many students have lost their jobs which allowed them to finance their stay in Germany,’ said German Minister of Education and Research, Anja Karliczek.

According to research conducted by a German online portal, three out of four foreign students in Germany work throughout their studies and have had their incomes seriously affected by the pandemic.

Co-founder of MyGermanUniversity, Stephan Paulini, said the interest-free loan will allow many South African students to continue their studies and not be forced to return to their country because they do not have sufficient resources to cover their expenses.

MyGermanUniversity has been created to assist international students to find the right offer from more than 400 universities and 20 000 study courses to choose from.
