The church handed over 50 static water tanks to King Zwelithini, and to the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Bheki Ntuli to deliver to the mayors of these local municipalities on Thursday.
The event was held in Nongoma at the Nazareth Church Linda Temple.
The local municipalities that benefited are: baQulusi, eDumbe, Nongoma, Ulundi and uPhongolo.
Church leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu, said that as a congregation they saw a great need to do something, as the country faces the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘Without water there is no hygiene. I appreciated the effort of the Zululand SAPS Cluster head, Major General Thulani Gwenya, who approached us with this idea. I wish to thank all those who contributed in ensuring that this project is successful,’ he said.

MEC Bheki Ntuli said the donation would go a long way in curbing water shortages.
‘As government representative and champion of the district, I am very grateful about this donation handed over to us by Inkosi Unyazilwezulu.
‘Zululand is one of the district municipalities facing water challenges. The schools and hospitals in every ward of these five locals municipalities are facing the same water challenges,’ Ntuli said.
‘I am very honoured that the grandson of Mayekisa, saw it fitting that today I hand over the contribution made by Nazareth Baptist Church (Ebuhleni faction) to the mayors of five local municipalities in Zululand,’ said King Zwelithini.
The monarch further warned the community not to defy Covid-19 regulations because they might get infected and in turn put their families at risk.
He also applauded the KZN cabinet for supporting the Department of Health in the fight against coronavirus and acknowledged the effort of the army, SAPS, doctors and nurses, who were at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic.
