'We have tried by all means to consider the pockets of our customers and ratepayers in preparing this budget'

LOCAL electronic media will be the platform from which City of uMhlathuze Mayor, Mduduzi Mhlongo, will further share the city’s R4.1-billion budget.

Owing to Covid-19 lockdown regulations prohibiting mass gatherings, the budget cannot be tabled in accordance with the ‘norm’, which entails various public meetings across the city.

‘Covid-19 is ushering in new ways of doing things,’ said mayor Mhlongo.

‘We cannot hold meetings as usual, but are encouraged to use all possible means to reach out to people we serve so they still have a say in the city’s budget.’

Stakeholders, customers, financial experts, members of the community and entities are encouraged to go through the City of uMhlathuze budget, and participate in the process by sending comments and suggestions via email and social media platforms.

‘We have tried by all means to consider the pockets of our customers and ratepayers, including the indigents, in preparing this budget.

‘On the other hand we ought to drive major infrastructure projects that will fast track economic growth under the dire global and local economic conditions we are facing and which are made worse by the coronavirus pandemic.’

Mayor Mhlongo will table the budget on the following local media platforms:
Icora FM: Tuesday, 19 May 2020 at 6pm
