HARRY Giannacopoulos, owner of a number of supermarkets within the City of uMhlathuze, has reacted angrily to enquiries as to whether one of his Spar shop employees has tested positive for Covid-19.
This after rumours were spread on social media platforms, initially that a staff member at Andrew’s Spar in Empangeni had tested positive and thereafter, that an employee at 5Fiveways Spar had tested positive.
Giannacopoulos stated that he would not hesitate to open a case against anyone confirmed to have started, or spread, such rumours.
The public is reminded that anyone found to have spread or shared false Covid-19 related information could be arrested, detained and prosecuted.
A guilty verdict could result in a six month jail term.
This regulation was announced by Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in March.
