Confidentiality remains a priority for police
Citizens guaranteed privacy when reporting sensitive cases
SOCIAL distancing as one of the preventative measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, is posing some difficulties to law enforcement officers at police stations when citizens report crimes.
Victims have expressed fears that information they have to submit is exposed to others present at the station.

According to King Cetshwayo police cluster spokesperson, Capt Mbongeni Mdlalose, residents can rest assured that confidentiality remains a priority.
‘Even though social distancing is also practiced at police stations, we can assure people that sensitive matters are still being attended to with this in mind.
Mdlalose said sensitive issues such as rape and other personal cases are dealt with in a private room.
‘The room is only used by the complainant and the officer taking down the statement. Protective measures such as leaving space between the two parties are practiced and people are urged to wear their face masks when reporting crimes.
‘Police officers are doing their best to maintain proper social distancing, but in emergency situations this is often impossible,’ said Mdlalose.
