CONFIRMED: 11 Covid-19 cases in King Cetshwayo District
The KZN government had previously taken the decision to not release per-district breakdowns of Covid-19 cases
KZN premier Sihle Zikalala this afternoon (Sunday) presented a briefing on the status quo regarding Covid-19 in the province.
Last month, Zikalala said the number of cases per district would not be divulged in the media, to avoid panic among residents.
Many locals have since been anxious about the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in King Cetshwayo and surrounding districts.
Zikalala announced that 587 cases have been recorded in KZN, which represents 18% of new cases in the country.
The district breakdown of confirmed cases is:
Amajuba: 8
King Cetshwayo: 11
Harry Gwala: 1
Ilembe: 26
Ugu: 15
uMgungundlovu: 46
uMkhanyakude: 21
uMzinyathi: 2
uThukela: 19
Zululand: 2
Ethekwini: 383
Of the new cases recorded in KZN, 77% are from the eThekwini District, which has been identified as the epicentre of the virus.
Citizens have been called upon to continue adhering to the lockdown regulations to flatten the curve.
The lockdown rules are expected to be intensified in eThekwini as of tomorrow.
‘We ask people to please stay at home. We appeal to the people of this province to abide by the regulations of the national lockdown.
‘We need our fellow compatriots to understand that this lockdown, and strict application thereof, is for their own safety.
‘We do not want what we’ve seen in other countries to happen here,’ said Zikalala.
