Taxi driver arrested after fatal shooting in Cingci Reserve

KWAMBONAMBI police on Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old taxi driver for murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property after a shooting incident in the Cingci Reserve.

According to a police report the suspect was driving his minibus taxi with his parents on board, when he came across a Nissan 1400 bakkie.

Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosingiphile Mthethwa, said for some unknown reason a quarrel between the two drivers ensued, during which the taxi driver pulled his licensed firearm and fired several shots at the bakkie.

‘The bakkie driver and his passenger sustained serious gunshots wounds and were rushed to the Nseleni clinic, where the passenger was declared dead on arrival.

Mthethwa said the bakkie also caught fire as two bullets hit the petrol tank and was completely destroyed.

The taxi driver was arrested at the scene and his registered 9mm pistol with six live rounds were confiscated.
