Richards Bay Beach closure works well

In addition to preventing the gathering of numbers that would not allow for social distancing, another benefit was seeing the area clear of litter and broken bottles as the normal after-dark parties were forbidden

THE closure of beaches in line with the announcement last week by City by uMhlathuze Mayor Mdu Mhlongo, was strictly adhered to over the weekend.

Only those with membership of recreational clubs or working in the Alkantstrand zone were allowed vehicular access.

In addition to preventing the gathering of numbers that would not allow for social distancing, another benefit was seeing the area clear of litter and broken bottles as the normal after-dark parties were forbidden.

Although begrudged by some, the majority of those turned away accepted that the measure was a good and necessary one given the coronavirus concerns.
