Churches urged to adhere to coronavirus precautions

This includes ensuring that sanitisers, sprays and clean water are made available at all places of worship

THE Interdenominational African Ministers’ Association (IDAMASA) has urged all its members to comply with the government’s health regulations to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This includes ensuring that sanitisers, sprays and clean water are made available at all places of worship.

Secretary General, Dr Bonginkosi Thenjwayo, said they believed God did not give them the spirit of fear, as they are called upon to bring hope to the nation.

‘As for the upcoming Easter period, we propose that services be held in assemblies, branches and parishes instead of having one big conference.

‘If a parish has more than 100 members, we suggest two or three church services be held.

‘We urge churches in South Africa to pray to God and ask for His mercy to intervene and stop this pandemic,’ said Thenjwayo.

‘We ask churches to be part of the solution and cooperate with authorities.

‘Churches should present educational programmes on prevention and utilise health practitioners.

Thenjwayo further proposed that churches reduce the number of worship hours.

During holy communion strict hygiene protocols should be observed and vulnerable people should stay at home to reduce chances of infections.’
