Port protocols revised to combat spread of coronavirus

A command centre has been set up to monitor all vessels docking at SA ports

Transnet has set up a command centre to co-ordinate and monitor all vessels docking at South African ports, and to provide direction on all coronavirus-related matters.

This comes as Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) intensifies its protocols in a bid to combat the spread of the virus.

TNPA’s revised protocols come in the wake of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on travel restrictions imposed to minimise the threat.

Included in the measures implemented by the ports authority is the termination of all sea cruises undertaken by cruise liner vessels into and out of any sea ports within the country until further notice.

The public is advised to call the coronavirus hotline on 0800 029 999 with any suspected coronavirus cases, or to report or obtain information relevant to the pandemic.
