Mtubatuba woman bust with drugs concealed in cosmetics bottle
The police urge people not to smuggle illegal drugs or weapons into the police station for family or friends in custody
A WOMAN was arrested at Mtubatuba Police Station after drugs were found hidden inside the bottle of body lotion that she carried in for a suspect in police custody.
According to Mtubatuba SAPS spokesperson Captain Justice Hlabisa, the woman was on her way to Hlabisa when her uncle asked her to stop at the police station and drop off a cosmetics parcel.
‘We work according to the law. Everyone who brings food or cosmetics to their relatives has to be checked to ensure no drugs or dangerous weapons are brought in,’ said Captain Hlabisa.
‘It was very unfortunate for her that she ended up being arrested for something she was unaware of.
‘The drugs were hidden inside the bottle of body lotion and were recovered when we cut the container.
‘She was arrested for being in possession of illegal drugs and appeared at the Mtubatuba Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.’
Captain Hlabisa appealed to all families not to support suspects in custody by supplying them with drugs or any dangerous weapons, as this is a criminal act.
