UPDATE: Load shedding possibly to continue through the weekend

THE City of uMhlathuze has issued an update in response to Eskom’s latest load-shedding announcement, indicating that scheduled power cuts could continue throughout the weekend.

This after Eskom announced earlier this morning that owing to unplanned breakdowns, stage two rotational load-shedding that was implemented yesterday would continue from 9am today (Friday) to 11pm tonight.

‘As the generating plant continues to perform at low levels of reliability, our technical teams were unable to return units from planned or unplanned maintenance as scheduled,’ said Eskom in a statement.

The power utility said it was unable to replenish water reserves overnight for its pumped storage schemes.

The image below shows the areas within the City of uMhlathuze to be affected today and throughout the weekend should load-shedding continue.
