KZN government releases civil servants due to severe thunderstorms

Civil servants are released from duty for the remainder of Thursday and on Friday

The Director-General of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize acting on advice from the Provincial Executive as Chaired by Premier Sihle Zikalala, also issued a notice that all civil servants, with the exception of those providing essential services, are to be released from duty for the remainder of Thursday and on Friday due to severe thunderstorms over most parts of the province.

‘We have been alerted that severe thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours are expected in most parts of KZN from today into Friday afternoon.

‘The thunderstorms will also be accompanied by severe lightning, hail and strong winds.  As a result, all heads of provincial government departments in KZN have been requested to release their staff from duty early today and tomorrow,” said KZN Director-General. Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize.

This is all in the interest of safety of our workers as a caring government.

The normal protocol in relation to essential services within the Provincial Government will still apply.
