THE fifth Diwali celebrations hosted by the Sivananda World Peace Foundation and his Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekhuZulu, will take place in Ulundi this weekend.

Held at the Ondini Royal Palace, the event begins at 2pm with Indian community representatives from Johannesburg, Phoenix, Chatsworth, Stanger and Richards Bay attending.

His Majesty has welcomed the celebration that unites the country’s diverse cultures and creates social cohesion.

‘All communities should respect one another despite our religious or cultural differences,’ King Goodwill said.

‘As the Monarch, I am delighted to celebrate Diwali together with the people of my kingdom, especially my Hindu brothers and sisters.’

Foundation founder Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu said during Diwali there is an air of freedom, festivity and friendliness everywhere and this festival helps promote unity.

‘Diwali is a symbol of hope for all South Africans to unite as one nation.

‘We need to come together to celebrate the rich heritage that our forefathers kept alive since they arrived in South Africa in 1860.

‘I salute His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuZulu for celebrating Diwali at the Ondini Royal Palace.

‘I urge all communities to join us during this festival as there will be many cultural items from both the Hindu and Zulu communities.

‘A grand fireworks display and a spread of Indian vegetarian cuisine will be presented on the day as well,’ he said.
