SARS open on Saturdays

Working hours have been extended for October

THE South African Revenue Services (SARS) has announced that all its branches will be open on Saturdays this month for taxpayers who have not yet submitted their returns.

Branches will be operational from 8am to 1pm, with services limited to submissions of personal income tax returns, and to help individual taxpayers to register for and file on the SARS MobiApp.

The tax season for provisional and non-provisional taxpayers who visit a branch for filing will close at the end of this month, while non-provisional taxpayers who use eFiling or the SARS MobiApp have until 4 December to submit their returns.

The deadline for provisional taxpayers who use eFiling is 31 January.

Taxpayers meeting all of the following requirements are reminded that they do not have to file a return:

• Your total employment income for the year before tax is not more than R500 000

• You only receive employment income from one employer for the full tax year.

• You have no other form of income (car allowance, business income and rental income, taxable interest or income from another job).

• You don’t have any additional allowable tax related deductions to claim (medical expenses, retirement annuity contributions and travel expenses).
