Warning against bogus inspectors

The two men pretending to be labour inspectors and wearing badges were seen in Mzingazi and it was confirmed they threatened and intimidated business owners into buying the posters at R800 each.

RICHARDS Bay Department of Labour on Thursday warned businesses of bogus officials selling labour law posters at inflated prices.
The two men pretending to be labour inspectors and wearing badges were seen in Mzingazi and it was confirmed they threatened and intimidated business owners into buying the posters at R800 each.
They are said to be travelling in a vehicle with Gauteng registration plates.
Richards Bay Labour Department Deputy Director Thulani Mncube said businesses should not fall victim to these scams as information is available free of charge from the department’s offices and website.
Posters can also be bought at local shops and may be legally copied and printed.
‘We distance ourselves from these practices and confirm that inspectors will never visit businesses selling these labour law materials.
‘What makes matters worse is the fact that these individuals are masquerading as labour inspectors as they commit their deeds.
‘Under no circumstances will the department sell labour law posters to employers.
‘Any employer can download this information from the Department of Labour website free of charge,’ said Mncube.
He called upon any employer who might come across these individuals to report them to law enforcement authorities immediately.
