Is your last will and testament up to date?

Have a basic will drawn up for free during National Wills Week

IF you are a parent, a breadwinner, a homeowner or if your marital status has changed recently, it is imperative that your will reflects these changes.

From 16-20 September, the public can have a basic will drawn up by a professional attorney – free of charge.

During National Wills Week, attorneys across the country offer this service for free to fulfil their pro bono responsibilities.

‘A valid will allows you to state your last wishes, who should inherit your assets and property, to appoint an executor of your choice for your estate and also a guardian for your minor children’, said Law Society of South Africa (LSSA) President, Mvuzo Notyesi.

‘By ensuring you have a valid will, you as the testator can protect the interests of your loved ones and ensure there is no delay in settling your estate after your death.

‘It also ensures your executor will act according to your wishes as set out in your will.

Attorneys participating in National Wills Week will display posters with their contact details so the public can make appointments with attorneys in their area.

Alternatively, this information can be found on the LSSA website – www.LSSA.org.za.

What to take with you:

A valid ID book or smart card.

A list of your assets and who should get what.
