WATCH: Magical moments at Hang out with Madiba washing lines

Generosity overflowed at wash lines across city for Mandela Day

ZULULANDERS went above and beyond the call to dedicate 67 minutes of goodwill on Mandela Day last Thursday when they supported the Hang out with Madiba cause.

The washing lines set up at businesses, schools, corporates and community organisations across the City of uMhlathuze attracted hundreds of community members who generously pegged up contributions of clothing and blankets, as well as donating non -perishable foods.

The initiative of Zululand Observer and its charity arm DICE (Do I Care Enough?) was well supported by the public and stakeholders who partnered to increase this year’s collections and ensure it was the most successful project to date.

Volunteers and donors spent hours at the washing line, from pegging items, sorting clothing into age categories and placing these in boxes for distribution.

At the washing line set up at the Civic Centre in Richards Bay, City Speaker Slondile Mkhize was the first donor to arrive with donations of blankets and clothing.
