You can help raise drug awareness

World Drug Day is on 26 June while National Drug Awareness Week runs from 24-29 June

TO commemorate National Drug Awareness Week (24-29 June), SANCA Zululand will be hosting tables stacked with awareness information at various locations during the week.

Venues are:

• Monday 24 June – Melmoth Hall, 10am to 1pm

• Tuesday 25 June – Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, noon to 4pm

• Wednesday 26 June – eSikhaweni Mall, 10am to 2pm

• Thursday 27 June – Sanlam Centre Empangeni, 10am to 2pm.

SANCA Zululand invites all stakeholders to display banners, man the tables and distribute flyers.

The idea behind hosting the tables is to create awareness around drug and alcohol addiction.

‘Substance abuse continues to plague our communities, especially the youth, often with disastrous consequences,’ said Shireen Sahadev, SANCA Zululand Director.

‘SANCA’s treatment and preventative programmes are viewed as effective methods of changing behaviour and attitudes, as well as raising awareness about trends in society.’

Theme

‘Justice for health and health for justice’ is the theme for this year’s World Drug Day on 26 June.

The rationale behind this theme is that health and justice are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing drug problems.

Effective responses to the world drug problem require inclusive and accountable institutions of criminal justice, health and social services to work hand-in-hand to provide integrated solutions, in line with the international drug control conventions, human rights obligations and the sustainable development goals.’
