How Zululanders voted – the 2019 election results so far

VOTING results are continuing to trickle in as seven of the Zululand region’s 13 voting districts have completed the capturing of counted votes.

In Pongola, Nongoma and Ulundi, the NFP is one of the top three parties, having garnered 6%, 22% and 9% of votes respectively.

So far, the only voting districts with convincing wins are uMhlabuyalingana where the ANC received 66% of the votes, uMhlathuze where the ANC received 60% of the votes despite having dropped from 2014 (although counting is not yet complete), Mandeni where the ANC received 64% of the votes and Ulundi where the IFP received 65% of the votes.

FRIDAY morning election results as counted votes continue to be captured at the various voting districts within Zululand show green (ANC) and red (IFP) dominating the northern KZN region.

The IFP is leading the way in Nkandla, after getting 55% of the votes, while in smaller areas like Mthonjaneni, smaller parties like the NFP feature in the top four.

While the ANC and IFP are fairly close in Mtubatuba, with 43% and 36% respectively, the ANC’s popularity has dropped from 54% in 2014 while the IFP has enjoyed a jump in support from 25% in 2014.

In uMhlathuze, the EFF has made the biggest gains, jumping from just 1% in the 2014 elections to 12% this year, while the DA dropped from 11% in 2014 to 7% this year.

The IFP’s support in uMhlathuze doubled, from 8% in 2014 to 16% this year, while the ANC dropped significantly from 71% in 2014 to 59% this year.
