Mozambican nabbed after discovery of missing girl’s body

UMKHANYAKUDE police have confirmed the arrest of a suspect linked to the murder of eight-year-old girl, Yoliswa Sibiya, of the Mlingo Township.

Police Cluster spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Mdletshe, said a 31-year-old Mozambican national was apprehended last Thursday and charged for the murder of Sibiya, who went missing while playing with friends on 8 March.

‘The suspect was spotted strangling a 10-year-old girl in the bush near Mkuze town by a woman collecting firewood . He ran away,’ Mdlethse said.

‘The community quickly gathered to search for the suspect. During the chase, the suspect tried to gouge out the eyes of a man who confronted him.

‘The community apprehend him and handed him over to the police.

‘During questioning, the suspect took the police to where he had dumped Yoliswa’s body.’

Angry community members demanded that the police release the suspect to them.

‘At this stage it is very difficult to established how the young girl was killed, as her body was badly decomposed.

‘We are awaiting the post mortem results,’ said Mdletshe.
