Important meeting for property practitioners

Public hearing on Property Practitioners Bill scheduled for 12 February 2019

 

Those affected by the new Property Practitioners Bill (B21B – 2018) should attend the public hearing hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

The Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature invites all relevant stakeholders and interested parties to attend the hearings.

Locally, the hearing will take place at Veldenvlei Hall, Richards Bay, on Tuesday, 12 February from 10am to 12:30pm.

Hearings will also take place at Durban and Newcastle next week.

Written submissions

Interested and affected parties are also urged to make written submissions on the Property Practitioners Bill.

The closing date for written submissions is 15 February 2019.

The Bill is available for perusal at:

  • The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature’s website: kznlegislature.gov.za
  • Government departments’ and District Municipalities’ various websites, as well as offices.

About the Property Practitioners Bill

The Bill provides for the regulation of property practitioners, to provide for:

  • the continuation of the Estate Agency Affairs Board as the Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority,
  • the appointment of members of the Board and matters incidental thereto,
  • the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer and other staff members of the Authority,
  • the transformation of the property practitioners sector,
  • the establishment of the transformation fund
  • the establishment of the Research Centre on transformation,
  • compliance with and enforcement of the provisions of the Act,
  • the continuation of the Estate Agents Fidelity Fund as the Property Practitioners Fund,
  • Consumer protection,
  • the repeal of the Estate Agency Affairs Act , 1976 and matters connected therewith.
