Premier launches activism campaign

Mchunu calls for collective effort to fight abuse

FIGHTING against the abuse of women and children is a societal issue which should involve everybody.

This fight will not be won if some people play the role of spectators.

This was the strong message by KZN Premier Willies Mchunu, speaking at the provincial launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, held in the Uthukela District Municipality.

‘A challenge as big as this one calls for an attack from all sides. We therefore want to see, hear and feel the impact of multiple voices with a united message.

‘As we interact with communities, we will identify appropriate solutions to the challenges using the experiences of victims and survivors of violence and abuse,’ Mchunu said.

‘With these campaigns we aim to mobilise society, especially men, to join hands with government in the fight to curb violence against women and children.

‘We must continue to unite across race, class, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religious beliefs and political-parties so we can achieve the end goal of total emancipation of women.’
