NSFAS application deadline looms

'NSFAS will not accept any late applications after the deadline'

THE National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged students who need funding for 2019 tertiary education to submit applications before the 30 November deadline.

‘The 2019 application cycle opened on 1 September for anyone wishing to further their studies at any public university or technical and vocational education and training (TVET) college in the country.

‘Since then we have received more than 262 658 applications, with more than 150 000 applications already evaluated.,’ NSFAS said in a statement.

‘A total of 44 702 applications are missing supporting documents, but we have since communicated with these applicants to submit the required missing documents.

Applications can also be submitted online

‘We will continue to send out communications throughout the course of the application cycle.’

The financial aid scheme has been receiving 3 500 applications daily, with the number increasing drastically to 5000 a day – significantly higher than the 2018 application cycle.

‘We call on all young South Africans who have not yet applied for financial aid to submit their online applications or visit their nearest National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) centres before the closing date.

‘It is imperative to note that NSFAS will not accept any late applications after the 30 November deadline.’

Applicants have also been urged not to change their cellphone number or email address listed on the application.

‘These will be used to communicate the results of the applications.

‘Applicants who wish to inquire about their application status, or contest funding decisions, can do so by calling the NSFAS contact centre on the toll free number 0860 007 327.

‘NSFAS will only fund applicants who have been accepted on an approved course at a university or a TVET college.’
