Rapist (50) pays girl (13) to keep hush

The accused raped the girl on a number of occasions in 2015 after requesting she come live with him and his wife as they had no children

AN EMPANGENI man bribed a 13-year-old girl with money to keep her quiet after he repeatedly raped her while she was under his care.

But she eventually told her parents and Zenzele Meyiwa (50) was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment at the Empangeni Regional Court on Friday.

The rapes occurred three years ago in December 2015.

Meyiwa reportedly approached the victim’s parents with a request that the girl stay with him and his wife as they had no children.

The parents agreed and she moved in with Meyiwa at his home in the Mkhanangwe area near Empangeni.

During trial the court heard that Meyiwa repeatedly raped the minor while his wife was not at home.

He would then give her money to keep her quiet.

The girl reported the matter to her parents when she returned home to visit.

Meyiwa was arrested after a case was opened at the Empangeni Police Station and transferred to the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.
