Fishing boat capsizes at Sodwana

Fellow angling boats came to the capsized boat's aid

FISHING boats in Sodwana Bay on Wednesday sprang into action when one of their fellow competitors in a local angling competition capsized.

It is thought the boats were at the back line waiting to come in after the day’s fishing, when the casualty boat was broadsided by a wave and capsized.

NSRI was alerted by iSimangaliso Wetland Park staff, but the other competition boats quickly went to the capsized boat’s aid.

The five crew were safely recovered from the water and transported to shore, as was the boat.

There were no injuries.

iSimangaliso staff assisted from the shore, but no further assistance was required.

‘NSRI commends the swift action of the competition boats, the competition organisers and iSimangaliso Wetland Park staff who assisted at the scene,’ said the NSRI in a statement.
