The Downstream Aluminium Centre for Technology, situated at the Zululand Chamber of Business Foundation Community Park, in Alton Richards bay, has a vacancy for a Centre Manager.

The organisation is a registered Section 21 Company, and part funded by National Government to develop and mentor entrepreneurs in the metals fabrication industry.

Reporting to the Board of Directors and to the various funders, the position requires a hands-on strategic thinker with good interpersonal skills and experience in a donor driven environment.

Internal applications from suitably qualified candidates are invited for this full time position.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • To provide strategic leadership together with the board of directors, for the organisation
  • Responsible for compliance to all statutory regulations, including the Public Finance Management Act, Governance and King II, Basic Conditions of Employment, Health and Safety acts, as well achieved ISO 9000 standards.
  • To effectively liaise with external stakeholders, funders, the board of directors, service providers and suppliers, staff, clients and tenants. This includes management of key strategic alliances, representation on national and or international levels and affiliated organisations or umbrella bodies.
  • Responsible to secure effective income streams for the organisation. This could be by providing business services and or securing funding and or contractual agreements and or any other income generating strategy within the framework of the business’ purpose.
  • Responsible for the operational implementation of board decisions
  • Develop and adjust company policies and procedures according to strategic decisions. Responsible to motivate budgets, compile, approve and monitor expenses within the guidelines of GAAP, PFMA and funding requirements.
  • Ensuring a pipeline of new clients and all contracts and obligations pertaining to them. Also to monitor their performance and ensure donor’s performance targets are attained.
  • Implement marketing strategy for the centre to become an incubator of excellence
  • Chair various meetings, managing all operations, including human resources, marketing, production, administration and reporting, provision of services and finances in the incubator.

Competencies required:

  • Must be competent in a donor-driven environment with stringent reporting requirements
  • Exceptional verbal communication skills. Able to communicate fluently in English – both written and spoken; isiZulu will be an advantage.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to establish long term working relations with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels.
  • Must be au fait with funding opportunities for small businesses by National Government and its agencies.
  • Driver’s licence.

 Experience required:

  • Experience in an ISO environment is an advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at a senior supervisory level in a production environment is required while experience at senior management level is recommended.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office suite, Quickbooks or Pastel or similar.
  • Experience at running their own business will be considered.
  • Able to write a sound business plan.

Qualifications:

  • A Baccalareus degree or diploma in Business Management or similar or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of light engineering industry, welding or the aluminium and or casting industry would be advantageous.
