Ongoing Richards Bay power woes

Power should be fully restored by the end of today (Friday)

A FAULTY transformer at the Hercules substation in Richards Bay’s CBD is the reason for electricity interruptions to the town and its suburbs since yesterday (Thursday).

The City of uMhlathuze has confirmed that, owing to a previous blown transformer, Hercules was operating on only two instead of three transformers and, after yesterday, is down to just one.

‘Because faulty transformers take a long time to repair or replace, sometimes two to three months, we have to source power from other substations so as not to further overload Hercules,’ said City of uMhlathuze Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane.

‘We are working hard to resolve the issue and power should be fully restored to everyone by tomorrow if not later today.’

Ncalane said the city would stick to its implemented load shedding schedule until power is fully restored, and would issue updates.
