THE Madadeni Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 53-year-old man to 18 years imprisonment for raping his brother’s grandchild.
The incident occurred in July 2013. The court heard that a five-year-old victim was raped at her homestead in Section 4 in Madadeni, when her aunt and grandmother were not at home.

The child reported the matter to her grandmother on her arrival and a case of rape was opened at Madadeni police station.
The docket was assigned to the Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.
The suspect went to hide at a farm in the Free State, but was arrested in January after an intensive investigation by the police.
