Garden dispute ends in deadly attack

Four arrested for murder in Nongoma

A dispute over a piece of land resulted in the death of a 60-year-old woman in Nongoma on Tuesday last week.

It is alleged that Moses Msimango (62) and his wife Lindiwe (60) were attacked by four suspects who wanted the two victims to stop their gardening activities on a piece of land, which the four suspects claim was theirs.

Zululand Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Nkosie Gwala, said that Moses was busy gardening next to his homestead when he was approached by his neighbours.

‘An argument ensued over the garden. Moses and his wife were both assaulted with a wooden fencing pole. They sustained serious injuries on the head and were taken to hospital for treatment,’ Gwala said.

Lindiwe died in hospital on Wednesday owing to head injuries she sustained during the assault.

‘A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at the Nongoma police station and the four suspects, aged between 29 and 40, were arrested.

‘They appeared in the Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Thursday and were remanded in custody for a formal bail application on Wednesday this week,’ said Gwala.
