WATCH: Richards Bay submerged vehicle retrieved

The vehicle slipped into the water during a boat launch

IT was not only fish being reeled in on Saturday, but also the vehicle of a local angler whose SUV and boat trailer became completely submerged during a boat launch.

Richards Bay NSRI duty crew were at about 9am dispatched to the Meerensee Boat Club where the vehicle had slipped into the water.

‘On arrival on the scene we found the casualty car completely submerged below the boat club slipway,’ said duty coxswain Jacques Kruger.

‘We used our NSRI Sea Rescue vehicle winch and a Meerensee club member’s vehicle as an anchor vehicle.

‘NSRI rescue swimmers went into the water to free dive to attach lines to the casualty car and we were able to pull it out of the water.

‘Once the car was out of the water, no further assistance was required.’

There were no occupants in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
