A POLICEMAN was seriously injured and treated in hospital while several residents were arrested during community protest action in eSikhaleni yesterday.
Police were called at Bhambatha Hostel and had to use rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

A protest was reportedly scheduled by the Golekane Movement for 7am yesterday with the aim of delivering a memorandum to City of uMhlathuze mayor Mdu Mhlongo. The grievances included rate increases and service delivery issues.
During the march, angry residents toppled municipal skips, damaged an electricity box and blockaded roads with stones and burning tyres.

According to police, residents made an application with the City council’s legal service on 6 September but the request for the community march was subsequently denied.
