Hijacked vehicle recovered

No one was injured during the incident

MEMBERS of Empangeni’s K9 Unit and Flying Squad worked quickly to recover a vehicle that was hijacked in Ngwelezana on Sunday night.

According to reports, a 33-year-old taxi driver had dropped off a commuter when seven men approached the woman and ordered her back into the taxi at gunpoint.

Both the driver and commuter were ordered to lie face down inside the taxi as the suspects, all armed with handguns, drove towards Dover High School.

The victims’ hands and feet were bound as the suspects dropped them off next to the road and fled the scene.

Their cellphones and bank cards were also taken.

The Toyota Quantum was recovered by the K9 Unit and Flying Squad a short while later, found abandoned in Sokhulu Road, near KwaMbonambi.

Police are investigating a case of vehicle theft and robbery.

No arrests have been made.
