‘The older generation is the one which contributed, through their experience and knowledge, to build the society of today. It is important when we talk about the freedom we are enjoying today, we always remember the role of senior citizens.

‘As we bid farewell to MaMkhonde, we reiterate our commitment as government to champion the cause of senior citizens, especially on issues around social security, healthy living lifestyles and active ageing.

‘Importantly, we acknowledge that senior citizens have human rights like any other citizens. They have the right to participate in socioeconomic activities that would improve the quality of their lives,’ he said.
