A SECURITY guard was killed in Jozini CBD in a gun battle with a group of armed suspects during the armed robbery on Wednesday night.
The local police spokesman, Captain Senzo Gumede, said that two security guards were escorting a business owner after closing his shop in the CBD, when they came under fire from armed robbers.
‘A gun battle ensued between the suspects and the security guards and one of the guards was fatally shot on the spot.
The second guard and the businessman sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital,’ said Gumede.

He said suspects managed to take an undisclosed amount and fled the scene.
‘It still not clear whether they were using a vehicle or if they were on foot.
‘We have registered two cases of attempted murder, armed robbery and a case of murder. No arrests have yet been made and an investigation is still underway,’ said Gumede.
