KZN judges pull no punches in sentencing paedophiles

National news: In one of the cases, a teen supplied her paedophile boyfriend (34) with images of naked children

IN TWO separate cases this week, KZN judges have come down hard on paedophile’s and people found in possession of child pornography.

In the first case, the Newcastle Regional Court heard how a man – who was sleeping with a girl aged just fourteen – was being supplied naked images of children by his ‘girlfriend’ (14).

When police searched his home, they found a computer hard drive containing a number of child pornography images.

He was arrested and appeared in court on Monday, where he was sentenced to an effective thirty years behind bars for charges of sex with a minor, sexual grooming, and possession of child pornography.

In the second case, at the Durban Regional Court, two men were found guilty of possession of child pornography.

SAPS national said that Jacques Rheeder (35) and Tiaan Malan (31) were arrested at their homes in Ridge Road, Durban and Waterfall, respectively.

This after specialized police in Gauteng contacted their Durban colleagues with information on the two men.

They appeared in court this week and were each sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for possession of child pornography images.

They will be registered sex offenders and have been deemed unfit to work with children.
