Harsh warning to sugar growers who overload their haulers

IN THE ZO TODAY: The RTI is now calling on motorists to report cane spillage, as it leads to road accidents

RTI spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu warned truck companies that they could face fines of up to R2 500 for overloading their cane trucks – or ‘bread loafing’ – as it is commonly called.

With the sugar cane harvesting season in full swing, a number of concerned motorists raised teh issue of large amounts of sugar cane falling off overloaded trucks, posing a risk to road users.
