Shaping the future of the youth of Jozini

Jozini Municipality has opened a mobile Central Application Office (CAO) to help learners apply for admission

Shaping young people to become future leaders is of paramount importance for the Jozini Municipality.

This commitment was evident during a youth career expo held on Wednesday at the Mange sport field, attended by hundreds of Jozini youth.

The expo was, among others, to educate the youth about the importance of saving money while following their dreams to become productive citizens.

Jozini Speaker, Cllr Lindiwe Gumbi, said she was excited to see the youth taking education seriously.

‘We feel motivated by this spirit of young people who are focused on improving their lives through education.

‘We trust this expo will hold much value, since we invited various experts from tertiary institutions to empower our youth with knowledge about career choices,’ said Gumbi.

‘Many young people are clueless about the registration process at a tertiary institution. We also invited the banking sector to provide guidance on saving.’

The Durban University of Technology, University of KwaZulu-Natal and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) were among the many institutions that made presentations at the expo.

Siyabonga Myeni (26) of Obonjeni said he found the expo informative and helpful.

‘I thank the organisers of this expo for championing the interest of young people. Learners who are still at high school will benefit a lot from this session.

‘Since we are living in remote areas, most of us don’t have facilities such as libraries where we can obtain important information about the things we need to know,’ said Myeni.

Jozini Municipality has also opened a mobile Central Application Office (CAO) to help learners apply for admission to tertiary institutions.

Jozini Mayor Delani Mabika encouraged the youth to utilise opportunities that come their way.

‘It is a right of any child to be at school and we will do everything to support our children to prosper in life,’ he said.
