SAPS have launched a manhunt for the Empangeni fugitive

The KZN Department of Correctional Services (DSC) has confirmed the escape of Zayne Mostert (31) from Empangeni Medium Correctional Centre this week.

This after the ZO broke the story in its Weekender Edition today.

According to a preliminary investigation, Mostert escaped at approximately 12pm on Tuesday during span work (cleaning by offenders) inside the Empangeni Medium court yard.

Mostert was serving a six-year sentence for vehicle theft and was believed to have soon been eligible for parole.

According to DCS, Mostert has relatives in the following places: Mtunzini, Richards Bay and Pretoria.

‘At moment he is at large, and the KZN Department of Correctional Services appeals to any member of the public who may have information that could lead to the arrest of this inmate  to come forward and report it immediately to the police or call the crime prevention number 08600 10111,’ according to the statement.

Alternatively, members of the public can contact investigating officer, Constable Senzo Mngomezulu on 079 1084 816.

Mostert isn’t the first inmate to have escaped from Empangeni Correctional Centre, in September last year  five inmates escaped from the medium correctional facility.
