Mobile clinics for Hlabisa community

Primary healthcare will have more of a reach into remote areas

THANKS to a generous donation of two mobile clinics, the people of the greater Hlabisa area will have better access to primary healthcare.

This after the Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) based in Somkhele near Mtubatuba recently donated the mobile clinics, each worth R250 000.

‘I would like to extend my most sincere thanks and appreciation to the organisation for joining forces with the Department of Health in fighting diseases in KZN,’ said an elated KZN Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo.

‘These mobile clinics will add to the existing fleet to ensure that primary healthcare is delivered to even those who live in remote areas.

‘Despite our best efforts, the scarcity of resources, vastness of our province and demand for healthcare services means that we are not always able to build enough clinics to cover the entire province.

‘So a donation such as this one strengthens our capacity and reach, which means more people will now have access to primary healthcare, which is an extremely important thing.

‘Lives will be saved and, to us, that means everything. So we greatly appreciate what the AHRI has done.’

AHRI is one of South Africa’s largest independent, inter-disciplinary research institutes.

It aims to become a source of fundamental discoveries into the susceptibility, transmission and cure of HIV and TB and related diseases, seeking ways to improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
