March shipping statistics for Richards Bay port

The Port of Richards Bay is a leading bulk port

TOTAL cargo handled at the Port of Richards Bay during March amounted to more than nine million tonnes, the bulk of which was shipped from our shores.

Total bulk cargo handled was 8 656 197 tonnes, with 8 109 932 shipped and 546 265 tonnes landing.

Breakbulk cargo handled at the Port of Richards Bay totalled 445 023.

Expressed in 6m units (twenty-foot equivalents or TEUs), 117 containers landed on our shores, 66 of which were full and 51 empty.

Total containers shipped from Richards Bay were 396.

This made a grand total of 513 containers handled last month.

Eleven general cargo vessels arrived in Richards Bay at a total tonnage of 275 307 tonnes.

Total bulk vessels were 114 at a gross tonnage of 4 953 138.

Fourteen tankers were handled, of which 11 were oil tankers, one chemical and two LPG tankers.
