THE 45-year-old man, who brutally killed his sister and her son, was convicted and sentenced to double life imprisonment by the Mthunzini High Court yesterday (Wednesday).

According to reports Buthelezi was arrested last month by a team of detectives from Nyoni in the eShowe area.

The members followed up information about his whereabouts at Gebhasi farm in eShowe, where he was hiding.

Initial reports indicate that on January 13 Nyoni police were called to investigate the disappearance of Zoe Buthelezi (49) and her son, Mthunzi Zulu (19), in the Esidakeni area near Mandeni.

Community members raised suspicious as they had last seen the victims on 9 January after they had an argument with a family members in the house.

When police arrived on Saturday, they started their investigation, searching for the missing mother and her son.

Community members also assisted police and while they were at the house of the relative last seen with the victims, police saw a fresh grave.

They dug up the grave and found the bodies of the mother and son.

The body of the woman had been chopped into pieces and was wrapped in plastic.
