Patient airlifted after freak injury

According to IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst, their aeromedical division, operated by Black Eagle Aviation, was called to assist ambulance crews with the critically injured patient

A FEMALE patient was airlifted from a remote location some 30km inland of Mandeni after sustaining multiple life-threatening injuries on Tuesday afternoon.

According to IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst, their aeromedical division, operated by Black Eagle Aviation, was called to assist ambulance crews with the critically injured patient.

‘It is believed that a vehicle’s handbrake failed while the patient was walking past.

‘This resulted in the patient becoming pinned against a wall.

‘Owing to the the remote location and time-sensitive injuries, the patient was airlifted to Life Entabeni Hospital in Durban for urgent specialist care,’ said Herbst.
