Tough and long shifts for hospital interns
Members of the public expressed shock at the amount of hours medical interns at public hospitals are expected to work
SOCIAL media was in a frenzy this week after a four-part documentary which focused on interns at Ngwelezana Hospital aired on Carte Blanche on Sunday.
The documentary looked at the daily routines of four medical interns at Ngwelezana Hospital and highlighted the strenuous shifts the interns are subjected to, some times more than 24 hours.

According to a document published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), medical interns are expected to do duty at a maximum of 60 hours overtime per week.
